Sara Atienza Sanz starts her Ph.D. in the Schmidt group

Sara, born and raised in Madrid (Spain), graduated in 2023 in Synthetic Biology from the International Menéndez Pelayo University. Her Master’s thesis was carried out in a Spanish company called EvoEnzyme and focused on the improvement of enzymes through directed evolution for industrial applications. During her Master’s program, she also worked as a lab technician at the CBGP, where she applied her skills in plant biotechnology, got to know the field of synthetic biology and became familiar with microfluidic techniques. Her doctoral thesis will focus on the extension of the scope of nitrogen-bonding enzymes.
