We’re growing further!

In May, Charitomeni Angeli started in the group as a Ph.D. student. Charitomeni pursued a Master’s degree at the University of Crete, combining biotechnology and photochemistry. Upon her successful completion of her Master’s degree on March 2023, she started her Ph.D. with us. Her project focuses on expanding the scope of nitrogen-nitrogen-bond forming enzymes for sustainable synthesis.

In July, Henrik Terholsen joined the group as a Postdoctoral researcher and Simon Schröder as a Ph.D. student. Henrik did his Ph.D. in the group of Prof. Uwe Bornscheuer at the University of Greifswald. The focus of his PhD was on enzymatic valorization strategies for mainly unused sustainable carbon sources such as CO2, lignin depolymerization products, or olive mill wastewater. As a postdoc in our group, he is now exploring novel strategies for enzymatic N-N linkages. Simon completed his Master’s thesis in the field of microbial biotechnology working under the supervision of Prof. Dirk Tischler (Ruhr-University Bochum) dealing with the characterization of novel nitrogen-nitrogen bond-forming enzymes. He will continue working on this topic as Ph.D. student in our group, with a focus on establishing a toolbox of novel and promiscuous NNzymes to generate pharmaceutical precursors that are inaccessible via chemical syntheses.

Welcome all to the team!
